Welcome to Acorn Class: Reception, Year One and Two
Welcome to Acorn Class – Reception, Year One and Year Two
A Warm Welcome to Our Small Church School
In Acorn Class, we are proud to be a small, nurturing community made up of children in Reception, Year One, and Year Two. While we are one class, Reception children are taught separately in their own dedicated learning space, following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, while Year One and Two pupils learn together in their own classroom, following the Key Stage One curriculum.
Thanks to our small group sizes, every child receives individual attention and tailored support. We work closely with each child, helping them grow in confidence, develop a love of learning, and achieve their full potential.
Our learning environment is calm, caring, and consistent, allowing all children to flourish socially, emotionally, and academically. We believe that strong relationships are the foundation of successful learning, and our staff take the time to get to know each child deeply.
Reception in Acorn Class
Dedicated Early Years Provision with small group sizes:
Starting school is a special milestone, and at our small, faith-filled school, your child will be welcomed into a Reception group where they are truly known, valued, and supported. Our Reception children learn in a separate, purpose-designed space, giving them the freedom and security to explore the EYFS curriculum through play-based, child-led learning.
With small group numbers, our experienced staff are able to tailor activities to each child’s interests and needs. From painting and construction to storytelling and imaginative play, learning is active, creative, and joyful. Our daily routines include a much-loved story time, and sociable snack times where children practise independence and build friendships.
We place a strong emphasis on language development and social skills, supported through conversation, songs, and shared activities. Adults join children during snack and play to gently guide and encourage communication and curiosity.
Outdoor learning is an important part of our day. Children enjoy free access to outdoor play, as well as Forest School sessions and local trips in our school minibus. These experiences help children connect with nature, build resilience, and develop confidence beyond the classroom.
Reception children are an important part of our wider school community. While they have their own learning space and curriculum, they also benefit from mixing with older children during playtimes and special events, encouraging kindness and a strong sense of belonging.
We work in close partnership with parents and carers, valuing the vital role you play in your child’s development. You are welcome to help in school – whether to listen to readers, or join our special celebrations.
In Acorn Class, your child will be part of a small, supportive community where they feel safe, happy, and inspired to learn. We look forward to welcoming your family into our school.
