Collage work based around Fibonacci, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 17th Oct 2017 @ 4:10pm

We created our individual collages out of brown box card and anaglypta wallpaper. We formed spirals by carefully cutting out leaf shapes and arranging them. We then attached each of our indiviual pieces together to form a class piece.

We then went on to creating collages using British leaf shapes which we had researched. We added inks in autumn colours to bring the collages together.

Our work was inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy and the Fibonacci Sequence.

The Fibonacci spiral: an approximation of the golden spiral created by drawing circular arcs connecting the opposite corners of squares in the Fibonacci tiling; this one uses squares of sizes 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 and 21.They appear everywhere in Nature, from the leaf arrangement in plants, to the pattern of the florets of a flower, the bracts of a pinecone, or the scales of a pineapple.

Writer of the Month, by Mrs Strickland

Date: 10th Jul 2017 @ 6:24pm

In assembly on Friday our proud writers saw their work on our new display board, in the hall. Improving standards in writing is a whole school focus and we hope to help all our pupils develop into thoughful readers and creative writers. From September, the school will be following the 'Talk for Writing' approach. Through multi-sensory and interactive teaching, we hope to enable all children, of all abilities to learn to write a variety of genres. The 'Talk for Writing' approach includes:

  • listening to and learning texts and stories
  • taking part in drama and role-play
  • drawing and story mapping
  • collecting words and language strategies
  • building the working knowledge of grammar

Look out for more information about Talk for Writing in the new school year.
