Science- Light travels in a straight line, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 6th Nov 2020 @ 3:27pm

We saw that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by a solid object. We learnt what opaque, translucent and transparent mean. We investigated which material would be best suited to make curtains for a baby's nursery.

Here you can see some of the wonderful art work the children have done over the last few weeks in school.

Symmetry and tessellation, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 23rd Jul 2020 @ 3:17pm

During the last few weeks we have been looking at symmetry and pattern making in maths.

The children used a dotted grid to create their own unique design. They then thought about colour and painted with watercolour which involved real concentration!

I reduced and copied them on the photocopier. Then the children had to cut them out and arrange them in a repeated pattern. They soon discovered that other shapes were created when they assembled them.

We learnt about tessellating shapes.

Rainforest, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 2:42pm

It was fanatstic to work with Willow class to create a class painting/collage related to their Rainforest project. We were inspired by the French painter Henri Rousseau. You all worked so hard and showed such talent. A wonderful Barrow Team effort.

Residential at The Tattenhall Centre, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 1:32pm

In February we were fortunate to spend 2 days with our year 3 and 4 children at the Tattenhall Centre. What a fantastic time we had!

Zip wire, low ropes course, tree climbing, willow weaving, orienteering, campfire stories, singing and of course Bingo, hot chocolate and a film. We were so impressed with the children who were brave and not afraid to try new challenges. Also the staff who were seen climbing up trees and hanging off zip wires!

On the way home we still had enough energy to visit the Ice-cream farm. Some fantastic memories.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.

Helicopters, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 1:12pm

In science we looked at helicopter design and particularly at the work of Igor Sikorsky.

We found out about Leonardo da Vinci who was drawing ideas such as the helicopter in the 1400s !

We also had a go at making some simple paper ones. We tested and trialled variations on this theme to see which ones were the most successful.

Helicopters, by Mrs Nolan

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 12:58pm

Just a few photographs to show the children making their helicopters. The painting stage was particularly messy!

When they were finished we put on an exhibition after school for everyone to see them.
