Y2 Week ending 28.9.18

Date: 28th Sep 2018 @ 6:42pm

What a busy week we've had! Thank you to all the parents who contributed vegetables for our D&T lesson. The children enjoyed preparing the vegetables and tasting the soup,  which was delicious. Reading instructions has been our focus in English all week as we have picked out features of several non- fiction texts including how to catch a wild thing and how to make shark soup. Building up a bank of 'bossy' verbs in the texts we read will help us to write our own instructions very soon.

In Maths, we have been counting vertices and sides on 2-D shapes. The children tried hard to remember the shape names. Mrs. Wainwright has started practising the two times tables with the class and today we moved on to measurement in our challenge 'who can dig the deepest hole in the vegetables patch?' The winning hole was 33cm deep. Great fun!

In Guided Reading today, we continued with our class text 'the owl who was afraid of the dark'. Afterwards we picked out words and phrases from the story which referred to the light e.g. Fireworks. After discussing the Van Gogh painting Starry Night, the children created their own pictures using the computer.

Enjoy the weekend,

Mrs Strickland
